This was my target...

• My target will be to learn how to adjust the focus on the SLR cameras to good effect
  

This was how I was going to achieve it...

The way in which I will be able to achieve this is by experiencing how the cameras can be used first hand. I will attempt adjusting the focus with several objects. Also asking friends who do photography will help me to get the best results that I can. When taking photos for a horror poster there are certain conventions that need to be met. Dark lighting for example is one of them, and possibly to include props such as blood and weapons to make it scary.

How I achieved it and proof...

As i said in the above paragraph I was planning to take several shots adjusting the focus myself. I did do this when in the photography studio taking the photos for our DVD cover of our actors. Here are some of the photos taken:

Taking this photo I felt that I had managed to adjust the focus well, however the other conventions were not suitable for a horror DVD cover as the photo seemed to be filled with light.

The expressions on their faces seemed to ruin this photo for me, along with the incorrect lighting. After taking two photos with a good focus yet terrible lighting I felt that I needed to turn a few of the lights off in the studio, bt keep the same focus I was using.

This was the final photo that was taken that day, and I believe it to be the best. There is a good amount of depth of field as the background character is only slightly focussed adding the desired mysterious effect. The main character in the front is looking unaware of the background character which we wanted and the lighting on his face seems perfect. This was to be one of the photos used on our DVD cover.

Skill Targets and Ways to Achieve These

Creativity

Skill Target: As last year I worked with a partner and also asked our actors their opinion on my ideas, I will try to develop my own ideas, without relying on opinion of others.

A way of achieving this target is by producing as many ideas as I can and trying to develop them thoroughly, similarly to how i will practise by producing several covers. Even though I will try to develop my own ideas I may ask for feedback on what I have produced.

Research and Planning

Skill Target: In my previous media products I have not done as much research and planning to help me with my research into my audience. I did do a brief audience profile but this time my target is to do more research in depth and to speak to my target audience and find out what they would like to see.

A way I will do this is by going to speak to my audience personally and find out what they would like to see in my media product. This way I will be able to find out things such as their desired linguistic features.

Post Production

Skill Target: Practise using the Photoshop software so that I am able to use it to the best of my ability.

The way in which I will achieve this target is by producing all of the same details which go on a DVD cover. This could include the certificate rating.

Using Conventions from Real Media Texts

Skill Target: Make sure that my media product contains real life media conventions, however possibly challenge them.

I will do this by researching Dvd covers that have already been produced to decide whether mine would manage in the industry.

Product Idea

I am going to be producing a media product that is in partnership with one of my previous products. The film opening which I produced which was called ‘Pulse’ was a horror film which I produced with Sophie. I will now produce a DVD cover which will be used for the advertisement of this new film’s release.
